This mustard glazed air fryer salmon is so moist, tangy, and delicious. After cooking this air fryer salmon recipe, I'm not sure I'll go back to cooking it in the oven or on the grill. I resisted buying the air fryer, thinking it was just another hot appliance like the Instant Pot which I actually love and use all the time.
This Glazed Mustard Airfryer Salmon is so easy to make and comes together in minutes. I've even skipped all the additional ingredients before and only put the mustard on it when I've been in a hurry and it was delish! The outside is crispy, though not too crispy, and the inside is so moist!
Cooking Frozen Salmon
I would recommend thawing salmon before cooking for best results but I've totally used frozen salmon and it turned out fine. The issue can be the outside will be done faster and can be overdone by the time the inside is the right temperature.
Salmon thaws fairly quickly if you run cold water over the package or thaw it in a sink for about 15 minutes. It's best if you can plan ahead and thaw it in the refrigerator for safety.
If you must use frozen salmon, just cook it longer and use a food thermometer to make sure the inside is the right temperature. I cook mine to 125 degrees. You want your salmon to flake with a fork. If you overcook salmon it will be dry.
Use food safety techniques when thawing food. Don't thaw foods on the counter at room temperature. If you are thawing quickly, thaw under running water. The safest way to thaw foods is in the refrigerator so the food never gets above a safe temperature.
What is an air fryer?
An air fryer is an appliance that is used to make fried foods without the deep fried oil. It's also used to cook other foods quicker. Air fryers can make the foods crispy on the outside yet juicy in the middle without the extra fat and breading, thus the food can be lower in carbs and calories.
Air fryers circulate the air which is how they cook and get that crunchy exterior texture while keeping the inside moist. Convection ovens also work by circulating air around the oven but air fryers circulate the air quicker which speeds up the cooking process.
I've used my toaster convection oven for years and it cooks much faster than my traditional oven. Part of why I never tried an air fryer is I thought it would be no different than my convection oven.
While I don't like having to store the air fryer, (yes, it's very big and bulky!) I do like the way food turns out when air fried, as well as how quickly it cooks.
Air fried potatoes really are crispy on the outside and perfect on the inside. I make air fried potatoes by just cutting potatoes into chunks or strips, shaking in a bag with a tablespoon of oil and seasonings, place in the air fryer and bake! Super easy!
How Do You Cook Salmon in an Air Fryer?
Since an air fryer is similar to a convection oven, you can use your own tried and true oven recipes for salmon. The key is the air fryer will cook the salmon much quicker so check it every before the timer goes off. I check mine after 10 minutes to see if it flakes.
I cook salmon at 390-400 degrees for about ten minutes but the time will depend on the thickness of your salmon filets.
A simple salmon recipe is to brush the salmon with oil and seasonings. But you can get creative and add any sauce. I've tried BBQ sauces and they come out great but I usually just do a mustard type sauce.
Best Mustard Ever!
For this recipe I use a specific mustard but you can use any whole-grain mustard. I recommend a whole-grain mustard instead of everyday mustard for the texture but I'm sure regular mustard would work in a pinch.
I've been blessed to have lived in Dyersburg, TN in the past where the German mustard company Develey chose to open a US plant. They have the most awesome mustard store there with the BEST mustard from Germany. I make special trips back to Dyersburg to stock up on their mustard.
This picture shows my favorite Develey mustards. I use both the whole grain and the dijon mustards in this recipe. The glass jar mustards are from Germany and the plastic bottle Tiger Tail Develey brand is made in the USA.
All the mustards are to die for and they do taste-testing in the store. They had a Mojito Mustard that was so AWESOME on salmon and chicken but it was a limited edition.
Stop by the store if you are in Dyersburg, TN outside of the Memphis area. (This post is not sponsored by them, I just really love their store.)
How to make Mustard Glazed Salmon
This Mustard Glazed Air Fryer Salmon is super easy to make. Just mix the ingredients, brush the mustard sauce onto the salmon, and pop in the air fryer.
Super simple! You can marinate ahead if you want but I'm usually in a hurry and don't marinate. I wouldn't recommend marinating over 30 minutes or your salmon can get mushy.
What can I serve with salmon?
I love serving salmon with simple sides like roasted vegetables, Mediterranean Quinoa Salad, loaded mashed potatoes. My post on 30 Minute Meals with no recipes shows you how to make entrees and sides super quick.Print
